Annual Open Enrollment Overview

2017 Employer Election Period – September 15, 2016 through October 12, 2016

  • Default Election (only if employer is not making changes):
    • Same Medical and Prescription Drug Plan Design
    • Same Medical Carrier(s)
    • Same Dental, Vision, Disability, and Life Insurance Coverage
    • Current benefit coverage for your employees will remain the same unless they complete a form during the ‘open’ enrollment period
  • Action Required:
    • Adding/Changing Medical, Dental, Vision, Disability, or Life Insurance Coverage
    • Adding/Changing Medical Carrier
    • Offering Voluntary Benefit Coverage

Annual enrollment packets for your employees will be sent to you by mid to late October.   Therefore, it is very important that you notify MBS of ANY benefit changes no later than October 12, 2016.

2017 Employee Annual Enrollment Period – November 1, 2015 through November 18, 2016

During this period your employees will be required to elect their benefits and make any enrollment changes.  After the annual enrollment period ends, employees will not be able to make changes to their benefit elections for the entire 2017 calendar year, unless they have a qualifying work or family status change.

  • Active Enrollment requires completion of enrollment forms for the following:
    • Employee change in dependent coverage
    • Employee change in plan design option
    • Offering Dual Option with Highmark and UPMC for first time
    • Offering Dental or Vision for the first time
    • Offering Voluntary Benefits
    • Employees will be required to elect carrier/network
  • Passive Enrollment :
    • No plan design changes
    • Offering only one carrier (Highmark or UPMC Health Plan)
    • Current benefit coverage for your employees will remain the same unless they complete a form during the ‘open’ enrollment period
